The proposals were for the 1FE expansion of a very successful 3FE inner-city primary school. The existing school was a victorian school with seperate dining facilities, nursery and relatively recent early years building on the site. Our proposals rationalised the existing building and the site including the addition of this three-storey twelve classroom block on the site of the existing early years building.
The design is extruded in plan and clad in grp with floor to ceiling glazing to maximise daylight and also ventilation into the classrooms. The proposals investigated the use of off-site construction with a prefabricated timber frame for all the structural and non-structural elements of the building; thus minimising time on site and disruption to the existing school.
Our proposals were fully developed in 3d CAD model including the existing school and surrounds so that sun studies and massing could be investigated during the design process with the client team.
