Miller Developments bid comprised of thirteen new-build primary schools and a single refurbish, remodel and extend secondary, on sites across the whole of Barnsley. We liaised with all the schools and designs for all of them were developed through the bid phase, though only three were taken to full details and models made for the submission.
A major affordability issues arose as the brief development had been poorly advised and enabling works badly omitted. Extensive work was carried out to find another route and finally resolved by proposing a new build alternative to the proposed refurbishment of Penistone Grammar School. Money saved over the live time of the PFI contract more than made up for the additional construction costs. However, the authority decided to omit the very same school and only build the thirteen primary schools!
