The challenge was to design a visually stimulating school with atmosphere that embodied the ideals of the school, the spirit of the village and the values of the community. The desire by the school to look at and adopt new approaches to learning was at the centre of how this school design developed.
Overall Winner and Award for New Building, at the South Tyneside Good Design Awards 2008.
A key strength of this project has been the involvement of the staff, governors and children throughout the design process, resulting in a stimulating new building that works exceptionally well for all its users, including the community. The lively building and the use of colour and materials including locally sourced stonework makes a real positive contribution to the distinctive character and vibrancy of the village.
